Senior Journalist Gauri Lankesh and also the editor of Lankesh Patrike was shot dead on Tuesday at her home in Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwari nagar. She was shot by three assailants outside her residence in Bengaluru at around 8pm.

Gauri Lankesh was the activist, fearless Journalist and the Editor of ‘Gauri Lankesh Patrike’, a weekly kannada tabloid without any advertisement and run by group of 50 people. She had often raised her voice against the caste system, communal politics and famous for her fearless and outstanding attitude. She was the daughter of P Lankesh, a famous poet turned journalist. After the incident police came and said “The shots were fired from a very close range inside the compound of the house and we are investagating the case.”



Lankesh was convicted of criminal defamation in November 2016 for an article which she had published in 2008. And BJP MP Prahlad Joshi & Umesh Dhusi had raised the objections on that article, which resulted in a six-month sentence & fine for Gauri Lankesh. But She had received the bail on same day. Recently in her social media post, she had flagged the issue of fake news and the propaganda.

When the news of Gauri Lankesh’s murder broke, the fellow journalists,friends and activists took Twitter to express their anger and shock.









A number of people observed the connection between the murders of  Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar, MM Kalburgi, and Gauri Lankesh.
