The deadline for Aadhaar-Bank Account Linking has been extended by the government. The new date to link Aadhaar to bank accounts is March 31, 2018.
A government statement said, the rule under 2002 Prevention of Money Laundering Act had been amended. The accounts that opened after 1 June 2017 have to be submitted Aadhaar, PAN and Form 60 within the six months of opening or 31 March 2018. And for the older accounts, deadline is 31 March, 2018.
The government’s decision comes ahead of the hearing in Supreme Court tomorrow.
In the hearing, a five judge bench is expected to issue an interim order related to a bunch of petitions which demand the government’s move to make 12-digit Unique Identification number compulsory for bank accounts, cellphones, financial transactions and welfare measures.
Recently the government had said that people who do not have Aadhaar-Bank Account Linking will get the another three months. At that time, the government said that it was willing to extend this mandatory deadline till March 31, 2018.
