Censorship is important in art or in any form of mass-media, but it has always been an issue in India. There is a large amount of audience in India which has great love for Hollywood movies and here is the list of Hollywood films which got banned by Indian Censor Board.
1. I Spit On Your Grave (1978)
The film with limited appeal and a content with full of sexual violence was banned in India and several countries.
2. The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo (2011)
The film had a bold subject and some disturbing scenes of torture and rape. Director David Fincher also requested to CBFC to drop some scenes from the movie, but not allowed to release in India.
3. Blue Jasmine (2013)
This film was banned in India because the director Woody Allen denied to add a ‘disclaimer’ to every smoking scene in the movie.
4. Get Hard (2015)
An American comedy by Warner Bros and they were sure this movie won’t get released in India in the real form. Hence, the makers of this movie withdrew the film release request in India few days before its screening.
5. Fifty Shades Of Grey (2015)
Many of us have seen the film but this movie was not allowed to release in India even though the distributors were ready to cut off some scenes. The controversial erotic-drama was banned by the CBFC because it contained so many sex-scenes, and according to CBFC it is something that we Indians must not be exposed to. The makers of movie also sent a trimmed down version to obtain the certificate but that was not enough for CBFC and decided to stick to some good old Indian values.
6. Magic Mike XXL (2015)
The high levels of testosterone in this movie made the Board members uncomfortable. The Censor Board felt “male-stripping” was against our Indian culture. And the result was what everyone expected.
7. Dirty Grandpa (2016)
Another movie that CBFC hated ‘Dirty Grandpa’ as they found the film totally obscene and sleazy. It is another Hollywood movie that Indian people had to miss and thanks to the cruel CBFC.
