India beat Kenya 3-0 in the second match of Intercontinental cup in Mumbai.
In two days time, Indian football fanbase has increased. It was captain Sunil Chhetri’s tweet, joining hands and requesting fans for support in the stadiums. It will be fair enough to say that messages from Chhetri, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and others were effective. Mumbai saw an audience of about 9000.
The Indian football captain seemed delighted, afterall it was his 100th game! The skipper looked on song as he scored 2 out of the 3 goals scored by India.
Sandesh Jhingan was the named the man of the match as his defense resisted Kenya from scoring a even a single goal. Kenya were constantly attacking and accumulating corners but Sandesh and Anas did a fantastic job.
However the scoreline read 0-0 until Chhetri finally scored a goal in the 68th minute. Next up was Jeje who got India the lead of 2-0, that too just 3 mins after his captain had scored the first goal. The third goal came in the last leg of the game, that too from Chhetri. It was his 61st goal in his international career of 100 matches.
The team and the crowd was delighted! It was raining but still the captain asked his team to do a round and they all thanked the audience.
After the win, the captain took to Twitter and said that “We promise you that if that’s the kind of support we get every time we play for the country, we will give our lives on the pitch. India, this night was special because we were in this together. Those in the stands shouting, and the ones at home cheering – thank you!”
India will now face New Zealand on the 7th June.
