Global ride-sharing major Uber is set to conquer the seas. The company launched UberBoat in Mumbai, a speedboat service from Gateway of India to Alibaug and Elephanta Caves. UberBoat services launched in partnership with the Maharashtra Maritime Board.
The services will begin on 1st February and people can book the speedboats through the Uber app. It is most likely to be the first and most convenient speedboat service in India.
Passengers can book either an individual seat or the entire seats in a boat for their journey. While existing boat services take one hour to cover the distance, but the new speedboats will be able to complete the journey in just twenty minutes.
Uber is currently offering options on its new marine service. First, UberBOAT can take 6-8 passengers with the price at a flat Rs5,700. While UberBOAT XL has larger speedboats with 10+ passengers that will cost Rs9,500. These prices are for a point-to-point journey across three ports includes Gateway of India, Mandwa, and Elephanta Caves.
But you’re expected to book your seat for speedboat at least 15 minutes before showing up at the port. Travel time between Mumbai and Alibaug is likely to be around 20 minutes. The speedboat service will be available from 8 am to 5 pm.
Prabhjeet Singh, Head of Cities, Uber India said, “we are excited to launch UberBOAT in partnership with the Maharashtra Maritime Board. With UberBOAT, we will tap the vast potential of the city’s waterways transport system. We aim to provide efficient and easily accessible services to riders who are looking at navigating through these specific routes. With this service, boat operators will be able to gain access to Uber’s highly-engaged rider base and enhance their earning opportunity.”
