Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has appointed Vodafone’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sunil Sood as the new Chairman of the association. The news was announced in the Annual General Body Meeting of COAI held today.
The AGM had leaders, including Mr. N. Sivasailam, Special Secretary, DoT, Ministry of Communications; Mr. Sunil Sood, MD & CEO, Vodafone India and Mr. Nitin Bansal, MD & Region Head – India, Ericsson. They had a discussion over a topic ‘Going Digital – People, Places, Things’, which saw contribution from senior delegates from the Government and the industry.
COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews said,
“We would like to thank our leadership for their guidance and support during one of the most challenging periods in the telecom sector and further express confidence in their ability to steer the Association and the sector towards long-term health and stability,”
He also mentioned, “We are sure the partnership between the Government and the sector will get stronger and these targets will be achieved. The National Digital Communications Policy 2018, recently unveiled by the DoT, holds significant promises for the industry that has been facing difficult times over the last few years,”
Sood has been handling the post as MD and CEO of Vodafone India since April 2015. Earlier, he was the Chief Operating Officer at Vodafone India Limited since February 3, 2012, and Director of its West Zone.
Sunil Sood is an alumnus of IIM Calcutta with a degree in M.B.A. He is a pioneer of an award-winning initiative ‘Project Drishti’ that was established to help the visually handicapped people to become financially independent.
Before leading Vodafone towards huge success in India, Sood also dealt in Fast Moving Consumer Goods sector and was the CEO of Pepsico in Bangladesh. He has proved to be a great tool in the development of telecom services in India with his innovative ideas, great customer satisfaction services, and amazing problem handling skills.
